Northumberland Wedding Venues We've Photographed

A roundup of venues from real weddings we've covered.

Venues

Northumberland gives couples an enormous range of settings. There's coastline, open countryside, converted barns, country houses and everything in between. It's one of the least populated counties in England, which means you can find dramatic settings without a motorway or housing estate visible in a single frame. Here are the venues we've photographed weddings at so far.

Horton Grange

A Victorian country house set in mature grounds near Ponteland, about fifteen minutes from Newcastle. It's licensed for both ceremonies and receptions, and the combination of the house interior, the garden and the surrounding countryside gives photographers a lot to work with across a full day. It works well for couples who want a classic country house feel without being too far from the city.

Shotton Grange

A working farm venue near Alnwick with a converted barn for ceremonies and receptions. The setting is genuinely rural, stone walls and open skies, and the barn itself has that warm, textured feel that photographs well in almost any light. It's a popular choice for couples who want something that feels away from it all without being impractical to get to.

Le Petit Château

One of Northumberland's most distinctive wedding venues, designed to look like a French chateau and set in its own grounds near Otterburn. It's not subtle, but it's striking, and couples who want their venue to feel like a destination tend to love it. The interior is heavily decorated with its own personality, and there's enough space both inside and out to give a full day of varied coverage.

Northumberland Registrars, Alnwick

The local register office for civil ceremonies in Alnwick. Some couples use it for a small ceremony before celebrating elsewhere; others choose it specifically for its simplicity. We've photographed several weddings here, including Suan & Tom and Victoria & Ian. The building itself has good light in the ceremony room and a pleasant exterior for couple and group shots immediately after.

Choosing a Northumberland Venue

The county is big, and the distance between venues matters. Some couples are happy for guests to drive an hour from Newcastle; others want something within thirty minutes of the city. It's worth thinking about where most of your guests are coming from before settling on a location.

Coastal venues like Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle draw a lot of interest but book up well in advance, and some have restrictions on outside suppliers including photographers. Check what's included in the venue's preferred or required supplier list before you commit.
